Bleh... I'm on day 4 of being sick. This hasn't happened to me in years! Usually I catch a bug, it rages through in 24 hours and I'm good. This low-achy-fever-for-days thing is just not cool. Luckily, The Geologist has been around to take care of me! The days of being chained to work (or school) are over! The boys have been super sweet too. So I think I'll live :)
The one good side effect of having zero appetite? Shaving off a few pounds! Though I will admit, if these were still hanging around my kitchen, I think I could find a teensy bit of an appetite...
Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treats (from Splash of Something)
Printable Recipe
1 cup salted butter, plus more for buttering pan
1 16-ounce bag of marshmallows
1 tsp vanilla extract
12 ounces Rice Krispies cereal
Butter an 11-by-17-inch baking dish or rimmed baking sheet, and set it aside. Melt 1 cup of butter in a large pot over medium heat. Stir occasionally as the butter foams, then turns to a clear golden color. It will then start to turn brown and smell nutty. Watch closely, and continue to stir often.
Once the butter is evenly browned to a rich amber color with little brown bits, stir in the marshmallows and vanilla. Continue to cook, stirring often, until the mixture turns pale brown.
Turn off the heat, add the cereal and mix until well combined. Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan, and press down lightly. Let the mixture cool, and then cut it into squares.
I've never cared much for Rice Krispie Treats. I thought they were kinda boring, and could take them or leave them. Folks, this recipe is a life-changer. I'll never look at them the same way again!!
The browned butter is amazing. It makes them tastes rich and nutty and carmelized, sooo good!! These are rice krispie treats for grown-ups! Luckily this recipe makes tons, so there are plenty for you and whoever you feel like sharing them with.
*Nom Nom* Scrumptiousness!!
Ooh, thanks for the "adult" version! I'm excited to try it out!

Browned Butter seems to be sweeping foodie land, with all sorts of browned butter baked goodies showing up! I have always been a Krispie Treat fan! I often used to make them for the kids in the evenings as a treat for them, along with my cinnamon rolls. I don't make them much anymore. Finding just white marshmallows is really hard to do. They always mix them with pink. YUCK! Hope you feel better soon! ((((hugs))))
