For today, February 23...

Outside my window... The sun is shining for the first time in days... shining on piles and piles of snow! Not that we can come anywhere near the mountains of "the white stuff" that are falling in the East, but we have definitely had the best snowstorm and the most snow of any of our three winters here in Colorado! Church was canceled, we played board games for hours and baked muffins, stayed up much too late and probably snacked too much. Oh well! It doesn't like this snow will go much of anywhere this week though, we have a day of cold sun tomorrow and then another snowstorm is on its way Wednesday. Bracken is going to have to turn her snow trail in the backyard into a tunnel!

I am thinking... I've whined about the wimpy winters the past couple of years (yay alliteration!!), with few quickly disappearing snowstorms and lots of unseasonably warm weather, and didn't want them to end until I was completely satisfied with the "wintery-ness" of the season. Which didn't happen, because unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out how to make the weather do exactly as I command... Anyway, this year I can declare myself completely satisfied with our winter! Snow pretty much never ceases to be magical to me, but I am soooo ready for Spring now. Especially since so many of the beautiful bulbs I planted last Fall are starting to peek out of the ground... of course, now they're under a foot-deep blanket of snow and I'm so worried that they'll give up, go back to sleep, and not wake up again until NEXT Spring! Or never come up at all!! I know they're supposed to be pretty hardy, but I can't help but worry about my little bulb babies.

One of my favorite things... This blurb usually hangs out at the end of these posts, but this one is intruding upon my other thoughts so I had to move it up. I just realized that I've gotten all flowery in those first two sections, with my brain magically remembering all these smart words from all those big books I've read... But I can't take complete credit, because playing in the background as I write is my favorite mini-series in the world, and one of the best book-to-film adaptations I think ever made, the 1995 BBC Pride & Prejudice. Ah, I'd forgotten how much Colin Firth just smolders his way through this movie!! Best version ever, hands down. Sorry Kiera Knightley, but nope. That's why I showed it to The Geologist right after we got married. Stephen Jr. can thank Pride & Prejudice for inheriting his father's name, because he was determined to have a "son and heir" after watching it! I suppose (see, there I go again, who actually says "suppose"?) I'm not a true P&P fangirl, because the wet shirt scene does nothing for me, I just think this version brings the book to life infinitely better than any other version. Anyway, listening to their dialogue is apparently making me write funny, but it's kind of fun, so I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to go with it just this once. :)

I am going... Nowhere. Nothing. Nada. With The Geologist out of town for a week and another snowstorm on the horizon, I shall be a hermit, and stay cozied up at home, with books and movies, and more munchies than I'm sure are good for me!

I am thankful... Oh, lately I am so, so deeply thankful for our new adoption agency!! We're having a completely different experience this time around, they're so helpful and warm and understanding, their goals and ideas line up perfectly with ours, it's incredible! Two Saturdays and we're done with training, the rest is up to us to do some research and chart our own hours. We feel nothing excitement and happiness this time around, and it is SO comforting! I'm so thankful we found them!

In the kitchen... Okay, I'll admit it, I have some recipes saved up (luckily) but I am having total baker's block, and don't have a clue what to make next. My whole Pinterest board, and nothing is jumping out at me... Whatever shall I do!? Something will come to me... I hope...

I am wondering... Will all of my bulbs come up? How much snow is too much? How cold is too cold? Will my rosebush and blueberry bushes come back? I have so little experience with gardening, there's so much faith involved! It's all so stressful!!

Well, I was going to chat more, but I just stuck my thumb in the soup I was re-heating for lunch and now it hurts like the dickens, so I'm going to wrap it in an ice pack, feel completely silly, and see you tomorrow! :)

    1. Nah, just for the day. All better! Sorry for the delayed response. Looks like most of my bulb babies survived, although a few got nibbled by deer... there's only one patch that isn't coming up yet, but we'll see!
